Phase 1:
Let me introduce my self. My name is Wes, I'm a 27 year old software engineer living in a small town in Northern Arizona. I have been overweight since I was about eleven. First I started out pudgy and I stayed that way until I was about eighteen, nothing out of control just the baby weight I guess. Heh yeah. Around that time I went through a weird phase in my life, emo. I didn't eat a lot, I was depressed all the time. And I worked at a job that was fairly demanding on the physical side. To top it off I also became a vegetarian. All this combined to ensure I lost about 30lbs in a short amount of time. If I wasn't so depressed at the time I would have been happy. These times were weird and the changes we drastic but I kept the weight off. I stayed a veggie and I went to work at the mall which kept me on my feet all day five or six days a week. So all in all I was able to keep the weight off. I then took it a step further and went full vegan. I did this for five years.
Phase 2:
All was peachy, and I kept my weight at around 185lbs. Just right for my height. Then the world crashed around me and I ended up getting a divorce. Needless to say this changed things in my life. I no longer wanted to be a vegan. One thing I never admitted to my self when I was a vegan was how bad I felt all the time. I slept constantly, I was sluggish even after a full nights sleep. My pride was too much and kept me from admitting to my self the things I saw that were wrong with being a vegan. I was also afraid to admit that I did it for my wife. What can I say, I was young and I thought those kinds of compromises would make a relationship work. As it turns out, not the case. So after the divorce I said screw it, I'm done pretending that I love being a vegan. I went back.
Phase 3:
So on top of going back to a carnivorous diet, and getting a divorce I also got a job in at a software development firm. Strike 3. So I go from active lifestyle vegan to sedentary lifestyle carnivore. Working in an office wreaks havoc on your body. For most people who do they will tell you it's true. You sit for 8 to 10 hours a day and just type away. Yeah I get up and walk around the office to try and keep my self awake but it does not do much. You can see what happens next. I slowly started putting on the lbs. I tried to stay active and fit. Take into account that I met an amazing women who I could really be myself around and I kept putting on the pounds.
The Last Straw:
I've hit it. I really have. I've tried diet and fad things that have never really worked. But that's not really a surprise. Millions of people try these fads and they may work initially but beyond that it's all downhill again. But at this point in my life I don't want to just loose some pounds I want to change my life style and become a different person. Not just for my but for my wife and my future children. So now I am making those changes. I am making the hard choices and pushing forward. And hopefully with a lot of hard work and some perseverance I will make the changes and live the life that I want too.
